The BRXR produces a very cute softfocus skintone

The assignment was to get and the bracelet sharp and the eyebrows. With the help of my new old friend Theodor I succeeded to place the correct plane of sharpness. You must work with nano-precision: a millimeter difference in tilt, even when you use the smallest aperture, results in unsharpness. So it took a lot of selfies, maybe 30 or 40...

Finally I eliminated the ellips of confusion

Scheimpflug revised ....... ....................................................................................................................................Sybrand 2014

STCR 14 x 21 inch 600 ppi.

YES!, I finally got rid of that nasty ellips of confusion. I never did know it was there, but a smart guy named Leonard Evens made me aware of it.

First mr Merklinger told me about the circle of confusion (the CoC) , the hinge line and the hyperfocal distance. Both gentlemen are pretty good in arithmetic and with the help of the formulas they gave I succeeded finally in making an end to all confusions.

In fact it is the fault of mr Theodor Scheimpflug, who introduced the ellips, but never said how to get rid of it. Now we know he told us half of the truth; he took his secret with him in his grave...

BTW, I think an image seen in a mirror is not, as all the teachers say for years, a virtual image. I think it is a real image. The virtual image, according to the teachers, should hide behind the mirror...

I think it's just a reflection. The photons in the lightrays -they come from all directions- collide to the polished surface, they can't converge as they do on a rough surface, and are then returned, losing some energy, as exact parallel rays. Right or wrong?

The way you see it... is right in the mirror...

Below a screenshot of three 460 ppi-files @ 33.3 %. Made with the new IRNR. Distance 1.9 m.

The new S-filters are extremely effective as you will see below, but I don't think it is wise to push the sharpness to a much higher level, especially not when the model is female...

Fullcolorstereo on the web

STXR, 18 x 25 inch 480 ppi, 300 mb

For the first time we produced a fullcolorstereo (very subtle, not over the top...) for the web. Without spectacles its a interesting piece of art, with green/red specs* you will be amazed about the details you see...

Note: For this process you don't need two camera's, just a good jpeg or tif and a good photo-editing program ...

* distance between red and green/blue should be about 2.8 cm

apo-IRXR 17 x 25 inch 480 ppi. Tricolorstereo. I was inspired by the methode relief couleur Malifaud I found in an old issue of the French PHOTO of May 1983! I adapted it for digital use so that it is possible to construct a stereo of an existing (color) photograph.

You need a pair of spectacles with two filters: one (red) for the right eye en one cyan/green for the left eye. It's a lot of work to get the colors strong enough and balanced, but the result is rather realistic...

BTW, this is a mirror-image shot at a distance of about 1.20 m. Distance face to mirror about 50 cm.

Photo May '83. Pictures: Andre Berg.

Stereo in color is an old technique, invented by Louis Ducos du Hauron. The spectacles with colored glasses was called an 'anaglyphe'. Pictures were printed in two colors. The color for instance meant for the left eye was printed in red, and the one for the right eye was printed in blue/green, or cyan, the complementary color of red. The result is a kind of duotone in brown.

Son and father Malifaud succeeded in developing a process with real colors. The trick is in the filters at their two cameras: the colors of the object are sliced in two: the left eye gets a different set of colors than the right eye. With the special specs they are fused again.

BTW, the 3D in the movies, for instance the latest Great Gatsby is based on polarized light.

Apo-CTR, 17 x 25 inch 480 ppi. Distance 1.7 m. Note the glass at right of Andreas Copier, the Dutch masterglassblower. It contains uranium and the color is called Annagreen. Maybe the lens I used contains Lanthanum and Thorium, so -WARNING!- this picture could be very radio-active..

Jokes aside, long-time exposure of the eye to -mostly- the back elements of old lenses (1940-1980) could be harmful*

In many cases you can recognize them by a yellowish coloring of the glass, so this transmits lesser light, or it softens the image. Sometimes this can be desirable...

* That's why eyepieces are made of polycarbonate... never clean them with gasoline/benzine, or they get blurred in a second...

I've got hundreds of this colorful stamps. They were used around 1900 on envelopes and invoices. They never saw the light, so the lithographic colors are superb. In some cases they were derived from big posters.

'Wenn die Farbkorrektur sehr hoch getrieben wird, spricht man
oft von apochromatischer Korrektur. Leider ist dieses Merkmal
nicht definiert und es gibt viele fließende Übergänge von achromatischer
zu apochromatischer Korrektur von Objektiven. Bei
den Leica Apo-Systemen sind die chromatischen Fehler verschwindend
gering. Doch gibt es einige Extremfälle, in denen
sich noch ein ganz geringer Farbsaum bemerkbar machen kann,
z.B. wenn sich ein dunkles Hauptmotiv vor einem hellen Hintergrund
befindet.' (Erwin Puts, Leica-ingenieur)

Now I see that the tropical camera (about 1926; date on pack with filmholders) has an Helioplan-lens of Hugo Meyer Gorlitz.....a double anastigmate...interesting...

"It was in the woods of Caria, near Halicarnassus that he encountered the nymph, Salmacis, in her pool. She was overcome by lust for the boy, who was very handsome but still young, and tried to seduce him, but was rejected. When he thought her to be gone, Hermaphroditus undressed and entered the waters of the empty pool. Salmacis sprang out from behind a tree and jumped into the pool. She wrapped herself around the boy, forcibly kissing him and touching his breast. While he struggled, she called out to the gods that they should never part. Her wish was granted, and their bodies blended into one form, "a creature of both sexes".

The picture in the background I made in 1973 with my first camera, a Petri compact. Forty years later the brown interior is still the same.

In those days there were three papers in the city, now there is no one. Journalists did regularly frequent this cafe.
